Car Maintenance Schedule

If you’ve already invested in a vehicle from Palmetto Ford Lincoln, you want it to last a long time. And it can, as long as you give it the right maintenance to ensure it stays in top condition along the way. Here’s a schedule of what you can do every few months to keep your car in great shape.

Every 3-7 Months

It’s good to get in the habit of checking your oil levels and your tire pressure every time you stop for gas. But if nothing else, make a strict schedule of doing so every three months. Most cars can go up to 7 months without an oil change, but check your owner’s manual to see what’s best for yours. At this time you can also have your mechanic change your oil filter and perform a tire rotation, plus a good once-over of everything else.

Every Year

At around 15,000 miles, it’s usually time to replace your air filter, which helps your engine work more efficiently. You’ll want to have your battery checked around this point, too, as well as your power steering fluid, your suspension, your coolant, and your wiper blades.

Every Few Years (40,000-60,000 Miles)

At this point, it’s a good idea to have your spark plugs, spark plug wires, and ignition system checked and possibly replaced. Again, consult the owner’s manual to see what’s recommended. However, if you’ve taken good care of the rest of your car, these parts may last longer. You may also need to replace the brakes and brake pads, the timing belt, or your HVAC system.

It’s impossible to say exactly what’s right for every car on the market. This maintenance schedule is a great starting point. But when it comes down to it, the best thing you can do is read your user’s manual and examine your car regularly to get a feel for when it needs professional attention. With a good, trustworthy technician to advise you along the way, you’re sure to drive your vehicle for a long time.
